The Founders' Inspiration
Inclusively Empowered Angels, Inc. was founded by the Executive Director, Dr. Aieshea Banks, (a woman with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and her husband, Eric Banks. after reflecting on experiences related to Dr. Banks' personal and professional experiences with neurodivergence.
Dr. Banks is a Speech-Language Pathologist with over 20 years of experience in working with neurodivergent youth. Her passion for understanding the unique experiences of Autistic people led her to discover the Neurodiversity framework. She considers it to be a powerful and revolutionary approach, that supports self-love, acceptance, pride, and respect, which are pivotal in supporting neurodivergent individuals.
Embracing neurodiversity is an inspiring concept that recognizes and celebrates the unique neurological differences and variations among individuals. By making necessary adjustments in interactions with neurodivergent people, they can be provided with greater access and opportunities to succeed in daily life activities. We believe that support systems and services should understand that differences in learning, processing information, communication, experiencing the world, etc. are due to neurological differences and should not be deemed problematic. Instead, we should strive to accommodate and advocate for changes that will promote equitable accessibility to all neurodivergent people.
Neurodiversity is a powerful movement that inspires and empowers people who have neurodivergent conditions. Dr. Banks, a neurodivergent professional, reflected on her personal experiences of feeling discouraged, disempowered, and excluded, due to her own neurodivergent characteristics. With the support of her partner, Mr. Banks, they came up with the idea of creating Inclusively Empowered Angels, Inc., a non-profit organization that seeks to make the world a safer, more accessible, and more welcoming place for neurodivergent youth and adults. Through various programs, Inclusively Empowered Angels aims to empower neurodivergent identities and provide meaningful support.
